In 2019, Naples Zoo at Caribbean Gardens celebrated its 100th anniversary as a garden.
As part of the 2019 celebration, the Horticulture department updated our plant identification signage on our historic tree collection. Many of these specimens are noted on the visitor map but these new signs will bring more attention to these amazing specimens that have been residents of the zoo for 100 years. These signs provide the era of the planting, common name, and scientific name – i.e. Fleischmann era 1954-1969, Indian Laurel Fig, Ficus microcarpa. Next time you're at the Zoo, look out for these new signs and share with fellow visitors! All new signage was graciously funded by a grant from the AZH Wendy Andrew Cultivation Fund.
